- Berkeley Marina. The sundial is at the end of the Berkeley Pier, at the intersection of Seawall Drive and University Avenue. This is the western terminus of University Avenue.
- Description:
- At the edge of the bay is a round horizontal sundial about 10 feet in diameter with a stark triangular gnomon. Both gnomon and dial base are of hammered concrete. The base rises above the ground by about 2 feet where Arabic numbers encircle the dial to tell the hours. The dial face is not quite level, perhaps to help with water runoff. This sundial was dedicated in 1970 to honor our first and now oldest sister city, Sakai Japan. The relationship dates back to 1966 (please see https://berkeleyca.gov/your-government/about-us/sister-cities).

- "The peoples of the bountiful Pacific ocean are brought together by the sweep of time. This sundial honors the citizens of Sakai Japan, the Sister City of Berkeley, united in warm friendship and goodwill, the peoples of Sakai and Berkeley strengthen mutual understanding and respect through the exchange of visitors and cultural programs. This Sundial is dedicated to the continuing friendship and growing association between Sakai and Berkeley. 1970."
