Description: |
- This is a 10-foot (3m) equatorial sundial made of iron and painted green. The gnomon and hours are painted in gold. Gold balls are located on the ends of the meridian and equatorial arcs. Following tradition, the gnomon is a rod with a decorative arrow and tail. The base includes a planted decorated with eight compass points and azimuth degrees marked in 10 degree increments and labeled every 30 deg. Both Roman numerals mark the hours from 6am to 6pm. Arabic numerals mark every third hour. The dial was build 20 to 30 years ago by Jim Tallman of Artisan Industrials (see photo #7) who now makes beautiful glass Spectra sundials. The sundial was originally made for Hotel Mexico and in the center had a water fountain. Since originally set, the gnomon is now off at 38 deg and may be misaligned to north.
