| Description: |
- This is an Erickson Monumental Equatorial Sundial. The dial face is made of Elberton Blue Granite with a 3-inch (8 cm) Stainless Steel gnomon resting on a concrete base. The circular dial face is 6 feet (2m) in diameter and 6 inches (15cm) thick. The gnomon casts shadows during the spring and summer on the top face of the granite dial and reads time on the back side of the dial during fall and winter. The Equation of Time is engraved on two stone plaques 11-feet (3.4m) long and 6 feet (2m) wide . On the dial's summer side, the EoT curve shows the time correction from March 22 to Sep 21. On the winter side, the EoT curve is from Sept 22 to March 21.
The Sundial was dedicated at the time of the 1985 Medicine Lodge Peace Treaty celebration.
